About sarita

IMG_4570.jpeg

Sarita Ahmad is currently a student at the University of Oregon, majoring in psychology. She moved from Texas to the West Coast as a teen, giving her ample experience with the vastly varying cultures of the US. She is a self-taught photographer, expressing interest in the art since childhood. Her main focus is to capture editorial and portrait shots that convey a variety of emotions and sensations. Often inspired by the works displayed in PAPER Magazine and The FADER, Sarita strives to capture clean yet powerful shots of her models. Other inspiration for her work comes from the likes of Alex Gross, a pop surrealist painter who uses his own photography to inspire his lowbrow paintings.

My photography adventure began with a point and shoot digital Nikon camera and the disposable underwater cameras that my mom insisted on buying for vacations. I eventually graduated to stealing my mom's old Canon DSLR, which I still use in my shoots. Spending nights scouring over the camera's handbook and using google to the best of my ability eventually gave way to me planning shoots with my friends. As I became aware of the joy that a successful shoot brought me, and the satisfaction of the models, I decided to pursue photography as a more tangible hobby and side hustle. I don't consider myself a professional photographer by any means but I'm always working to better myself and my photos to further create work that I, and my client, can be proud of.
